Will Tory Lanez’s unapologetic album ‘Sorry 4 What’ make it in the top 10?

Will Tory Lanez’s unapologetic album ‘Sorry 4 What’ make it in the top 10?

It’s been a week since Tory Lanez dropped his highly anticipated album Sorry 4 What and his fans are ecstatic. The album has already sold 24,000 units in its first commercial tracking week. If you weren’t a Tory fan before this album is a perfect excuse for you to be.

Tory started the hype for S4W by dropping the lead single off the album, Why Did I, along with its music video. The video features Tory, strippers and a whole lot of money in Taboo – a strip club in Miami that he frequently references throughout the album & even entitles his second track Bad Bitches Wrk @ Taboo. This is Tory’s seventh studio album and was released under his independent label One Umbrella.  To promote the album’s release Tory held three listening parties in one night in New York. Guests included Ty Dolla $ign, Dave East, Bobby Shmurda and Red Cafe, all artists that reflect Tory’s style and approach to this album.

Lanez is known for his healthy blend of RnB and Hip Hop and that is definitely demonstrated on this album. The album only has two features from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Yoko Gold, so for most of the album it really sounds like ‘Tory featuring Tory’ the way he switches flows and goes from singing to rapping. On some tracks like Red Casamigos Tory gives us more mellow beats and sexier lyrics, whilst on tracks like Sorry 4 What // LV Belt and Y.D.S we hear the more boastful/arrogant rapper Tory which reflects the title of the album.

Tory has recently faced a lot of hate in the media for allegedly having violent altercations with Megan thee Stallion and August Alsina, so many fans thought the album title was a response to the allegations. However, Tory wants to keep this album separate from all the public drama. “It’s no disses or anything negative on the album,” he revealed. “I’m just trying to do good stuff. I’m just staying positive but being unapologetically myself.” The title manifested itself when Tory suggested the title ‘Sorry’ to his photographer, who then replied “Sorry for what?”

While the total sales of 24,000 units for this album is actually the second lowest first-week sales Tory Lanez has collected for a studio album to date, it may still be enough to land him a Billboard 200 top 10 placement upon the chart’s refresh on Sunday (October 9). Regardless, it’s definitely enough to crown Sorry 4 What this week’s top-selling new Hip Hop project and it seems Tory is already back in the studio. He announced this week that he will be executively producing, female rapper, Iggy Azalea’s next album. Tory tweeted and said he wants to, “raise the bar…on the beats, production & overall experience of female albums.”
