Lizzo releases new music and it’s “About Damn Time”
Lizzo is bringing back disco and we are here for it. This upbeat, feel good track is heavily inspired by the 70s and is bound to get hips grooving and lips moving.
The song gives audiences the first taste of what to expect from her heavily anticipated upcoming album Special, out July 15. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the singer declared “It’s about damn time I feel better, it’s about damn time we get out of this pandemic. It’s about damn time we get the first Black female Supreme Court Justice. There’s so many things. It’s about damn time we popped the Champagne.”
Lizzo is currently one of the biggest names in the music industry, but it took many years of hard work and dedication for her to get to that position. Lizzo’s first album was released in 2013, and although it was well-received by critics, it received poor commercial success. Despite this, however, she continued to graft and in September 2014, she had the honour of collaborating with Prince, arguably one of the greatest musicians of all time.
However, it was her signing with Atlantic Records which really began to change the singer’s life. The release of her third album “Cuz I Love You” in 2019, catapulted her to mainstream success. It debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and landed her a spot in the Coachella line-up. “Truth Hurts” was the singer’s first Number One single and she became the first black solo female R&B singer to claim the top spot on the Hot 100 since Rihanna’s 2012 hit “Diamonds”.
Known for her upbeat vibe, and quirky inclusion of the flute in her performances, Lizzo is arguably one of the best live artists today.

“About Damn Time” is THE song of the summer. It is catchy, upbeat and is already going viral on TikTok. After the stress of lockdown, the track is an anthem for many listeners getting back to normal, post-pandemic. It is motivational, inspiring, but most importantly it’s a banger.
