“Flowers” Grow out of Spencer-Smith’s Heartbreak in New Single

Attention all heartbreak anthem lovers and bitter breakup song stans, 18-year-old singer-songwriter, Lauren Spencer-Smith has just dropped her new single “Flowers” and it’s a banger.

The Canadian musician has been bubbling under the surface of superstardom for a couple of years, having been nominated for the Juno Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year in 2020. She also competed in American Idol, reaching the top 20, before being knocked out. But little did she know that posting a demo of a new song, “Fingers Crossed” on TikTok would change her life and catapult her into the spotlight. The viral video has been viewed over 32 million times, and her self-released song reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Top 10 in the UK Official Charts in January 2022.

Fuelled by her vocal ability and impeccable songwriting skills, labels flocked to sign her. She ultimately inked a deal with both Republic and Island Records.

“Flowers” is her first single since signing with these two major labels and it has definitely cemented her as a “one to watch”.

Opinion:

The contrast between the soft, simple acoustic instrumental and Spencer-Smith’s raw and bitter vocals and lyrics perfectly encapsulate how gut-wrenching heartbreak can be. It is the perfect song for anyone who has ever experienced miscommunication, whether they’re unhappily single, recently divorced or even happily married! This song makes you want to roll down the windows and scream the lyrics as you try desperately to copy Spencer-Smith’s impressive vocals.
