Conan Gray is making more”Memories” with a new emotional ballad

After announcing that his sophomore album, titled “Superache” will be out on 24th June, Conan Gray is giving us another taste of what to expect, with an emotionally fuelled nostalgic track, “Memories”.

This song comes after the commercial success of “Telepath” and “People Watching” which are also expected to feature on the new album.

Long before his incredibly successful career, the California born singer-songwriter originally found fame on the video-sharing platform, Youtube, uploading vlogs and covers of his favourite songs. He eventually self-released his debut single “Idle Town” in March 2017. The song was a hit and gained over 12 million streams on Spotify. Praised for his catchy melodies and nostalgic, honest lyricism, Gray has gone from strength to strength. His biggest hit “Heather” was released as part of his debut album in March 2020 but went viral on TikTok. It subsequently became a single amid its popularisation in August 2020. Sir Elton John praised the young star for his writing of the hit saying “it’s nice to hear someone write a proper song”.

Gray has cited Taylor Swift as his main influence, admitting that she had “shaped him as a person” and proudly declared himself “the largest swiftie”. Swift is seemingly a mutual fan of the up and coming artist, posting his track “Wish You Were Sober” on her personal Instagram story in early 2020, hailing it a “masterpiece”. Gray is currently on his world tour and tickets for his European leg can be purchased here.

Opinion

“Memories” is a piano-led track that focuses on heartbreak, and the difficulty of letting go. Gray’s vocals are the real showstopper in this track, emotion and nostalgia oozing out of them. It is the staple for any sad playlist, and really raises the anticipation for his new album.
